The Starlet Program - story of a student

Work to Support My Grandmother

Er Gu Re Hui
Tian Tai Elementary School, G.6

“I lost my parents when I was little; I live with my 77-year-old grandmother. She is my only relative in the whole world. She has many aches and pains because she is old. Recently, she fell down the stairs and broke her leg, and now she cannot walk. Every school holiday I have to get a job – cooking, washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, and grocery shopping – earning $600 a month to pay for grandmother’s medical care. When I finished work at midnight, I came home to do homework. Not only do I not feel any hardship doing these chores for my grandmother, I feel happy because I can do something for her. I believe that my parents in heaven realizing what I have done will be very pleased.”

Once the class had to write an essay called “My Wish” for school. Other people wrote about wishes for their future. She wrote “My best wishes for those who love me:

“I wish all is well with my loved ones” and “Love is priceless, it asks for nothing in return, but it can bind our hearts.”
