Vocational Students' Activities

They have such lovely smiles –
Working together to prepare a meal

Stars, the twinkling stars, each child is a bright shiny star. Canada’s Fu Hui Education Foundation has a group of lovely blessed starlets.

The students in Xichang’s teacher’s college often join their counterparts at the college of nursing in various activities. The first time they met was to prepare a meal together. They split into small groups with assigned tasks and went off to purchase their ingredients.

The rice group quickly got their rice, washed it and cooked it. The larger vegetable group worked more leisurely and eventually got all their ingredients. Some washed the vegetables, others chopped them up. The girls had impressive chopping techniques and enjoyed chit chatting as they worked. Some had heard that music and cooking go well together. Two of the girls brought out their lutes and started playing for the group. Once the prep work was done, the “chef” stepped up to cook the vegetables, showing off her cooking prowess! Delicious aromas filled the air....

After lunch, every one helped to clean up before they headed off to the pop-up picture book store. The trip took almost 30 minutes under the scorching sun. But nothing could spoil the joviality of the group.

Those who saw this book store for the first time were stunned – so many interesting picture books!!! Wow! Three of them would be starting their teaching placements the next day. Today they were focused on learning all about these picture books from the teacher.

A sweet, beautiful smile was on every face. These Butuo girls who were receiving subsidized education are now continuing their studies in Xichang. What would they bring to the future of LiangShan? It would be worth our wait to find out.

Changing one girl’s destiny is changing one family. This is the result of the contributions of many persons behind the scene. These contributions netted their smiles – and gratitude for all they have done.
