English Conversation Group

In 2013, Fu Hui began the first English Language summer camp for Grade 7 to 10 students at XiChang’s HuiLi Experimental School. About 60 students participated in each of the two week summer camp of phonetics training, reading and other activities such as yoga, movies and games. Each day they practiced conversing in English with tutors via Skype.

Volunteers from North America connected with the students on Skype to read and practice every day conversations. Students also learned how to use a computer.

Each summer, the Skype English Class has over 100 students participating with 40 volunteer tutors. They attend sessions totalling over 500 hours learning not only English but also building up their confidence in social interactions. They also get a glimpse of a world beyond their home province, thus gaining a broader world view.
