Our Impact

A decade to grow a forest, a century to groom a generation.

In twelve years of persistent work in China to promote and assist educational opportunities for the children and youths, our results are there for all to see. Not only did we change the chil- dren’s destinies, our work has become a model of educational reforms with the local govern- ments.

Starting with nothing aside from the compassion to help, with the full and ongoing support of the local government, Fu Hui has had the following impacts:

On the Local Education System

Due to the full cooperation of the local government, the Fu Hui educational assistance model was a resounding success. The Butou County has started to implement a similar boarding educational system comprehensively by other charitable organizations. A ten year action plan will see boarding schools renovated and upgraded with the priority to admit orphans, impoverished girls, children from extremely remote areas and other disadvantaged groups to this system. Suitable arrangements will be made to cover the living expenses of the boarders. This boarding educational system starting from the first grade will be implemented comprehensively and keep expanding. The Fu Hui Starlet boarding system with its meticulous process of care and supervision will be promoted and applied so as to improve the quality of the educational system.

On the Students

New beginning for the Orphans
Before, their only option was manual labour. The schools are very far away making it impossible for them to attend school on a regular basis. Education was not an option for them. Now, they realize the importance of an education. They enjoy balanced meals, learn manners and daily routines. And they have a future. They also learn Mandarin which helps them with their chance of finding employment when they graduate.

Destiny on their hands for the “Yi” Girl
Instead of being discriminated against and not be allowed to go to school and being forced into an early marriage, they now have the freedom to choose their own destinies and have an impact on the next generation.

Improvement on students’ hygiene
Hygiene of student in remote area was greatly improved by Fu Hui, including installation of solar water heater for student taking bath in mountain terrains. Fu Hui also provides toiletries, clothing, storage box and bedding to our subsidized students.

More opportunities for the Junior High Graduates
Open up alternatives for those unable to proceed to senior high via enrollment at vocational or technical schools to learn a trade. Instead of returning to their homes to work on the farm, Fu Hui will help them to acquire a marketable skill to enhance their chance of being independent.

Students engage in charity work
Fu Hui’s assistance is not only in material or financial forms. The infusion of love and compassion is consistent throughout our contacts with the students, through face to face contacts and correspondence with them. This has caused most of them to have in them a grateful heart which they in turn are able to spread it to those in need. Many of the students are involved in volunteer work in the community. They visit nursing homes, homes for disabled children etc.

On the Local Communities

A residual affect from the above is that the local communities stand to gain some much needed skilled workers in various trades.

In this regard, Fu Hui has proactively opened training classes in the following fields to meet the local demands: Pre-School Education Teachers Training, Nursing Assistance for the Elderly Training.

On Other Charitable Organizations

Fu Hui has developed a platform to collaborate with other charitable organizations working in the educational system in China by sharing our model with them. Many organizations have indeed opened many classes similar to the “Starlets” in Liangshan.
