Fu Hui Celebrated 20th Anniversary in Gala with the Theme “Education Transforms Destiny”

 

Fu Hui Education Foundation successfully held a Gala event on August 24, 2024 at the Zunyan Fine Dining & Banquet Restaurant in Toronto with the theme "Education Transforms Destiny" to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the organization. It was the first time Fu Hui resumed hosting this event after the COVID-19 pandemic. The masters of ceremonies for the evening were Ms. Isa Lee, Markham City Councilor and Mr. Glenn Chan, a key member and volunteer of Fu Hui. Among the more than 500 people in attendance were Fu Hui’s Board Members and honored guests from all walks of life. It was a vibrant celebration!

The evening started with the presentation of a video “All for Our Kids” produced by the China News Services team. This video highlighted Fu Hui’s educational work in the remote mountainous areas of Liangshan, China. The Chair of Fu Hui, Mr. Stanley Kwan, shared the journey of Fu Hui’s efforts in the remote underprivileged areas in China and the fruitful results achieved in 20 years.

In his speech at the Gala, Mr. Luo Weidong, Chinese Consul General in Toronto, praised Fu Hui’s work over the past 20 years. Adhering to the principle of "Education transforms destiny", Fu Hui provided valuable opportunities to students in remote areas of China, and made meaningful contributions to the education of Canada's Indigenous communities. Fu Hui’s charitable work exemplified the fine tradition of generosity in Chinese culture and promoted mutual understanding and friendship between China and Canada.

Ms. Judy San, President of Fu Hui introduced the background of various Indigenous programs and presented a video “Empowering Indigenous Communities” showcasing Fu Hui’s educational support and financial contribution to Indigenous communities over the past nine years. 

Ms. Charmaine Williams, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto, was grateful for Fu Hui’s contribution in the Master of Social Work, Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency scholarships program, filling an important gap in their training program.  She also praised Fu Hui for making a significant contribution for the children, youth and families in the Indigenous communities.

Performances at the Gala were equally exciting. Happy Linda Dance Studio specially choreographed the dance "On the Road to School" for Fu Hui, recreating the touching scene of Liangshan children going to school. The Red Spirit Singers’ performance of Indigenous dance and drumming was filled with cultural richness. Afterwards, the Indigenous performers also intermingled with guests for picture-taking. The evening ended beautifully with Ms. Chen Lin singing Fu Hui and the China students' favorite theme song "Grateful Heart".

“教育改變命運” ——福慧教育基金會成功舉辦“福宴”暨慶祝基金會成立20周年

 

福慧教育基金會8月24日假多倫多樽宴大酒樓舉行“福宴”暨慶祝福慧教育基金會成立20周年。這是福慧教育基金會於新冠疫情後首度恢復的年度籌款晚宴，是次晚宴主題为“教育改變命運”，由萬錦市市議員李思韻與福慧主要成員陳偉財擔任司儀。基金會理事會主要成員及社區各界人士500餘人共襄盛舉。

晚宴首先播放由中國新聞社委託梁韵團隊拍攝的記錄福慧涼山助學短片，《一切為了孩子》，福慧教育基金會主席關保衛分享了福慧在中國偏僻山區捐資助學歷程，及20年取得的豐碩成果。

出席活動的中國駐多倫多總領事羅偉東稱讚，過去20年來，福慧秉持“教育改變命運”理念，為中國欠發達地區以及加拿大原住民社區學生的教育作出巨大貢獻。其善舉弘揚中華民族樂善好施的優秀傳統，也促進中加兩國之間的瞭解和友誼。

 

福慧教育基金會會長黃綺銖介紹了原住民專案的開展背景。晚宴上也播放了福慧教育基金會的原住民項目影片，展示了福慧在過去九年對原住民社區的支持和幫助。

多倫多大學社會工作學院的教授兼院長Williams分享了福慧原住民專案成果。並稱，該項目填補了培訓中的一個重要空白，讚揚福慧為原住民社區中的兒童、青年和家庭方面做出了重大貢獻。

晚宴的文藝表演同樣精彩紛呈, Happy Linda舞蹈學校特意為福慧編排了舞蹈“上學路上”，重現福慧涼山孩子們從失學到重返校園的場面、The Red Spirit Singers舞蹈團為大會帶來富有原住民特色的精彩演出，並與現場嘉賓互動拍照。大會最後以歌唱家陳琳老師演唱福慧和學生們最喜愛的歌曲「感恩的心」中圓滿落幕。
