Fu Hui Members Met with Sponsored U of T MSW Indigenous Trauma and Resilience Program Students at Appreciation Dinner

 

Whenever Fu Hui’s Indigenous scholarship recipients from the University of Toronto’s Master of Social Work (MSW) Program in Indigenous Trauma and Resilience come to Toronto for in-person classes, our members have the opportunity to meet them face-to-face. On September 23, 2024, Fu Hui members were invited by the University of Toronto to attend an appreciation dinner, celebrating the longstanding partnership between the MSW Indigenous Trauma and Resilience Program and Fu Hui. This event was held with the Cohort 8 students and provided a wonderful opportunity for sharing and relationship-building. 

The evening began with a welcome address and land acknowledgment delivered by Professor Charmaine Williams, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work. Following this, Fu Hui Chair Stanley Kwan and President Judy San reflected on Fu Hui’s journey—from supporting the education of underprivileged students in China to its recent work in Indigenous educational initiatives.

Student representative Folashade Kortee spoke on behalf of her cohort, expressing the immense value of Fu Hui’s support. She highlighted how the foundation’s generosity and belief in her potential have not only shaped her own future but also the futures of those she will go on to impact through her work.

Jane Middleton-Moz, the initiator of the program, also shared her gratitude for Fu Hui’s support, fondly recalling her first meeting with Fu Hui members during the Cohort 1 graduation. She praised the foundation’s work in both China and Canada, noting that many of her former students are making meaningful contributions to their communities, much like the students Fu Hui has supported in China.

During the dinner, Fu Hui presented two films: All for the Children, a documentary on its educational support initiatives in Liangshan, and a film showcasing its Indigenous education projects in Canada.

The evening allowed Fu Hui members to gain a deeper understanding of the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities. They encouraged the students to submit proposals for local educational projects that might benefit from Fu Hui’s continued support.

 

福慧成員與多倫多大學社工學院原住民創傷及復原課程碩士生交流晚餐聚會

 

趁著第八屆社工學院原住民創傷及復原碩士課程學生到多倫多參與實體課程, 多倫多大學社工學院邀請福慧成員于2024年9 月23日與福慧資助的學生聚餐及交流, 感謝福慧長期為這課程的捐助.

院長Charmaine Williams 教授致詞承認並尊重原住民對土地的擁有權及致歡迎詞. 福慧主席關保衛及會長黃綺銖介紹福慧從資助中國貧困學生接受教育至近年來投入資源幫助加拿大原住民社區的教育項目的歷程.

Folashade Kortee代表學生表逹福慧的資助對她及同學的重要性, 並陳述她對未來的規劃. 她將加入多倫多大學原住民輔導聯繫工作, 希望幫助更多像她一樣的學生.

這課程的發起人Jane Middelton-Moz 感謝福慧對這課程的支持, 她憶述第一屆碩士生畢業典禮上初次與福慧成員會面, 讚揚福慧在中國及加拿大的工作, 指出很多這課程的畢業生正在社區中作出貢獻, 正如福慧資助的中國學生一樣.

當晚大家熱切交流, 福慧成員更深入認識原住民社區所面對的狀況. 福慧鼓勵學生提交有意義的原住民教育項目計劃, 向福慧申請資助經費.
